Events in 2007
In September 2007 Walk the Plank launched the UK’s first Art Car Parade, which took place in Manchester and attracted an audience of over 30,000. Artists descended on the city from all over the country bringing their transports of delight to the streets and wowed the crowds with bold designs such as a giant walking robot, a mosaic adorned Tiki Love Truck and a musical Milk Float.
In October, the Parade was taken up a gear and became part of Blackpool’s world famous Illuminations, part of the Festival of Light. 3 new vehicles were commissioned including an illuminated Halibut mobile, a 1957 Green Goddess Fire engine, which spurted fire and a Dragon Car made with help from young people from Barnados. All the vehicles in this Parade were illuminated and help light up Blackpool’s Golden Mile.
2007 came to a close on New Year’s Eve, with Glowmobiles part of the NewcastleGateshead Winter Festival. Once again the Parade saw new commissions including a steel sculpted transit van, a fleet of illuminated cycles and a tricycle made with help from young people from Kids Kabin. The flag came down on the Parade with a spectacular fireworks finale to see in the New Year.
