My proposal involves modifying the façade of a medium-sized van using my own technique of blowing metal. I intend to completely transform the van by covering each panel of the van’s body with individual blown stainless steel panels.
The look of the van will be a soft fluid form. The straight lines will be transformed by an exaggerated curving of the roof, back doors and underside (between the wheels), so that the entire van looks puffed-up and inflated.
The finish is very important and I ill use a highly polished stainless steel finish given its affinity with light and the night time setting of the Parade. Any available light will be reflected in the mirrored surfaces and bounced around the hundreds of facets present in the crinkle of the steel. Light will literally be amplified. The clarity of mirrored stainless steel when blown will also act like a ‘hall of mirrors’, distorting the surrounding environment of colours, light and movement.
