Black Cab

A London taxi will be laser scanned to obtain digital cross-sectional information of its shape. As the sculpture drives around it will sometimes be solid looking, sometimes you will see the mechanical components, and sometimes it will be totally see-through. Each profile will emphasise the beauty of the taxi shape by picking out curves that would not ordinarily be appreciated. The sculpture will be made from lightweight sheet metal and fabricated with the help of CAD (computer aided design) and CAM (computer aided manufacture) to be able to extract, construct and align the complex multiple intersecting planes.

Pete is primarily a sculptor and has exhibited his work extensively over the past 25 years. Over the same period of time he has gained a broad knowledge of pyrotechnics and fire, building large scale sculpture and bonfires that come to life as they burn down.
