I have always cylced and later in life I met my wife through cycling. Strangely enough our “first date” was a cycling trip to Holland to meet Eric Staller; the first maker of “Glowmobiles” and multi-passenger bikes. I enjoy working on bikes as much as riding them so the experimentation that led to my own Glowmobile “Small World” was inevitable. I call the process incremental creativity. Parallel to this is my love for street theatre and the parade format.

Small World is not a static piece, it is meant to move, to weave in and out, swooshing round corners and appearing suddenly, it should also be noisy with with human voice and sounds, not just amplified music. The “Glow” that I wish to inspire is “I wish I was doing that”

Technically Small World is made from three Pashley Loadstar trikes and kiddies tandem two wheel trailers. I bought all the component parts in Newcastle second hand. The pedal power unit was made to recharge the batteries which supply lights and sound. Also to augment the photo electric cells that charges the battery during the day.

The main idea is that the contraption acts as a stage for whoever is on it and the name was inspired by this being a “Small World”. I’m working with Kids Kabin who happened to be working on a cycle project with trailers so this fitted right in…”Small World”. The chance to work with Kids Kabin is fantastic and its their energy that will be used to power the project.
